DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COURT SYSTEM

The Center for Internet Innovation has developed the Domestic Violence Court System, a web-based application that guides survivors of domestic violence through the first phase of the protective order process. Alone or with the help of an advocate, individuals can easily navigate the site, which guides them through a series of questions and checklists The data is then gathered and formatted into standardized legal forms. Additionally, the program locates the appropriate court and prints out maps and required legal documents, in either English or Spanish.

The first of its kind, the Domestic Violence Court System is currently operating in shelters in Georgia and New York and is endorsed by the U. S. Department of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Designed in consultation with researchers and domestic violence advocates, this Web application eliminates initial barriers to access and safety.
