Bio
Lucy Phillips is pursuing a master’s degree in in Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management at The New School. She previously earned a B.A. in International Studies from Kenyon College. Most recently, Lucy worked as the general manager of a zero-waste grocery delivery start-up in Brooklyn. During the height of COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021 she worked at the Park Slope Food Coop, which contributed to her interest in food and food systems. Her interest grew even more when she began the EPSM Graduate Program and solidified her main area of study and research. Lucy is focused on our food system’s relationship to climate change, which reinforced one concept for her repeatedly: everything is connected. Lucy feels that to address our city’s food security and access issues, we must also look at the intersection of housing, poverty, and segregation. Exploring this nexus is what is most motivating to her about community planning in general and this fellowship. Lucy enjoys going to the beach in all seasons, taking advantage of any chance to swim. She’s an avid fan of word games, and possibly spends too much time on The New York Times crosswords and Spelling Bee.
