About the Program:
The Community Planning Fellows Program places graduate students in urban planning and related fields with NYC community boards. This provides community boards with much-needed additional capacity, and offers students first-hand experience in community planning.
In the community board offices, fellows face real-world community planning issues as they work on zoning, transportation, economic development, affordable housing, sustainability, and other land use projects. They assist board members and staff in finding solutions to quality-of-life issues of importance to local neighborhoods.
What’s in Store for Fellows:
Our Fellows will embark on an immersive learning experience that includes:
- Mentorship: Learning from seasoned professionals in urban planning, local politics, community development, and more.
- Hands-on Projects: Collaborate on real-world projects that address key challenges faced by our community boards and local neighborhoods.
- Networking Opportunities: Connect with a diverse cohort of fellow change-makers and build lifelong connections.
- Skill Enhancement: Enhance leadership, communication, problem-solving, policy analysis, and project management skills to thrive in the urban planning landscape.
Calling All NYC Community Boards!
Applications are now open for Community Board and nonprofit project proposals. All Community Boards throughout the five boroughs and select nonprofits are eligible to participate. District Managers and nonprofit partners may submit a project proposal that is both valuable to their community and a substantive learning experience for Fellows over a two-semester timeframe.
