The Fund for the City of New York’s (FCNY) mission is to improve the quality of life for underserved communities everywhere. FCNY is committed to civic innovation, community solutions and public service. The Fund for the City of New York offers a summer internship program to high school students, college students, recent college graduates and graduate students.
The purpose of the internship program is to create access and opportunity for young people by providing them with a meaningful internship experience that will enhance their professional development and increase their engagement within the community. Interns have an opportunity to expand their network as they work closely with their peers, internal FCNY staff and our partner projects.
Internship Orientation
All interns participate in a robust internship orientation where they learn more about the Fund for the City of New York and engage in a series of workshops such as StrengthsFinder, understanding leadership styles and preparing for a successful internship experience.
Internship Experience
The internship program offers interns to gain a valuable experience in the non-profit sector by engaging in a variety of different projects internally at the Fund for the City of New York and with several of our partner projects.

- Marketing and Communications
- Research and Writing

This is a hybrid internship experience, interns will be expected to come into the office three times per week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, the two remote workdays will be on Wednesday and Friday. *Please note that most interns will work part-time (three days per week), due to special partnerships with universities across the country, some interns are required to work five days per week.
During the internship experience, interns will be taken on a field trip and will engage in a day of service with one of our partner projects.

The Internship Program is an 8-week immersive experience during the summer starting June 3, 2024, through July 26, 2024. If you are interested in applying for an internship at the Fund for the City of New York, please attend one of our virtual Prospective Intern Information Sessions: Fund for the City of New York will host internship program information sessions with prospective interns and partner projects. These sessions are designed to answer questions and provide insight into the internship program.

Intern Application Process
Prospective interns are required to complete an online application where they will be asked a variety of questions and will have to upload a resume. The application deadline is April 15, 2024.
- Interviews will be conducted between the months of February – April and final offers will be made by no later than mid-May.
- Internship Start Date for College/Graduate students or recent graduates will be June 3, 2024 – July 26, 2024.
- Internship Start Date for High School Students will be July 8, 2024 – July 26, 2024.
Partner Project Intern Host
Partner projects who are interested in hosting an intern over the summer are required to complete an interest form and upload a project description. Application deadline is April 15, 2024.

The Director of Training and Development will contact you to schedule an interview.
After completing your interview, you can expect to hear from the Director of Training and Development within two to four weeks regarding their decision.
The Director of Training and Development will work with the IT and HR teams to ensure your on-boarding process begins. You will receive emails from both the HR team and Roundtable Technologies regarding next steps. Additionally, the Director of Training and Development will contact you with specific instructions on next steps to prepare for internship orientation.
Yes, the Fund for the City of New York provides access to a desktop computer and workstation at the office for the duration of the internship experience.
The dress code at the Fund for the City of New York is business casual. Here are some examples of business casual attire:
- Sport coats or casual blazers
- Collared shirts or button-down shirts
- Casual slacks like khakis or chinos
- Collared or non-collared blouses
- Dresses or skirts
